Amazing! I’m very pleased with my purchase. They’ve already paying for themselves. I estimate I’ve saved around 5kg of cherries already, they’re ripening on my tree as we speak. Birds are not even trying to get them. I got them for cherries but also have lots of other fruit I can use them for: raspberries, strawberries and tomatoes.
I decided it was time we actually got to eat some of my cherries for a change. From a whole tree we’re lucky to get two handfuls each year. I used to get around 3kg but those birds seem to get hungrier every year. I was having to buy cherries. I had been using mesh bags that vegetables and fruit come in, they worked for a while to save a few cherries but the holes were a bit big and the birds were eating them anyway. Then I tried mesh shopping bag and a washing bag,, working well but I couldn’t see through to see if the fruit was ripe.
The last couple of years the birds have started eating at the first blush of pink. About two weeks before they are even ripe. Cherries are one fruit that doesn’t ripen off the tree, unfortunately. My four year old has not even tasted home grown cherries. Until now, we tasted some the birds knocked off, but they don’t even taste as sweet as they will in a couple of weeks.
I love that these bags come in a range of sizes. I got the 30×20, good size for putting over a bunch of cherries at the end of a branch. Or a bunch of raspberries. They are virtually transparent and you can easily see the ripening process, as well they don’t block the sun. They are fully breathable, yet strong and bird proof. Not so stiff they won’t gather up nicely with the drawstring.
These arrived I think within 24 hours, certainly 48 hours. Shipping was so quick. Maybe a bit pricy though, I expected it to be coming from Australia at that price. This is the only issue I have. Otherwise I’m very happy. And even at 40c a bag including shipping, it’s reasonable value.
